Mealtime

Mealtime is our Friday night ministry to 5th grade - high school kids. Each Square Peg leader has their own small group of 6-8 kids that they lead in Bible study and some kind of hands on activity. It's a great time of building friendships and diving into God's Word.

My small group has been studying God's creation. Our activity this week is "nature craft" so the girls found sticks outside and then they painted them. This week we will tun our painted sticks into a jewelry holder. The girls are so excited about these painted sticks!

I will post the finished product next week!

Kids Club & Blind Bartimaeus

Kids Club is going strong this fall at Square Peg Ministries. Every Friday at 4pm, Pre-K-4th grade kids join us for a time of praise & worship, a Bible story & activity. Last Friday we heard the Bible story of Jesus healing Blind Bartimaeus. We heard how Jesus is the light and like Blind Bartimaeus, we all walk in the darkness of sin. Jesus is the only one who has the light to heal our sin. Many kids prayed to receive the Lord. Our activity for the afternoon was making Blind Bartimaeus puppets! The kids did a great job with their puppets!

Summer 2011

This summer has been super fun and super busy at the apartment! Our summer programming has included our weekly VBS on Friday afternoons. Kids have enjoyed learning about the 10 commandments and how God has made them a Super Star! Also, this summer our apartment kids attend our summer camp Camp Rocks! Camp was the week of July 4th and we celebrated 10 years of Camp Rocks! Last Friday was our annual back pack giveaway and we handed out 100 filled back packs in 20 minutes! It was crazy! Lot's of smiling faces with their new back packs and supplies! Our summer is coming to a close as we wrap up our VBS these next two weeks and get ready to start homework help in September as well as our regular Kids Club and Mealtime programs. Backpack Giveaway 2010

Last Friday afternoon Square Peg Ministries handed out over 100 backpacks full of school supplies to kids in the Roswell community! Kids were lined up for 2 hours waiting for our door to open! They all had BIG smiles as they came in and picked out a backpack of their choice. A special thank you to everyone that donated to this project! We appreciate you!

Our kids are learning that God has a GOOD plan for their lives and that God has given them special abilities to serve Him! Briselda ...

If you have been around any of kids, well, you know Briselda. She is a pistol!

Briselda will probably be running the country one day if we don't watch out (or at least maybe Camp Rocks!). This tween is full of personality. She is quite intelligent and resourceful as well, which she needed this year as her family has gone through some serious drama. Being raised by a single mom while her dad is in jail is trying enough. She has also moved and had to deal with several things way beyond her maturity level this year!

Camp, among other things, is the place where Briselda can feel safe to be herself. She doesn't have to worry about the issues concerning her at home. She is free to focus on having fun & learning about God.

Alexis ...

Can you tell that Alexis had a great time at Camp Rocks! last year? HE absolutely loved it!

From archery to field games to water adventures to camp-out night, Alexis thrived. He comes from a family where Jesus is not King, and we were so happy to be able to show and tell Alexis that Jesus is the One and Only Savior of the world. We know that all his problems don't go away the minute he returns home from camp, but we know that he heard that Jesus is the source of the answers.

The Gospel is actually presented several times at camp - in both large & small group settings. We pray that Alexis will truly understand how much his heavenly Father loves him.

Jacob ...

Jacob might be tough on the outside, but on the inside this kid is longing for attention and for the love of our Savior. He attended Camp last year, and was placed in the best cabin possible - Rooster's Cabin (Darrell Hunnicutt's).

Watching this young man be nurtured and trained in Godliness by Darrell was amazing! It was the perfect thing for Jacob who has little contact with his father. Words cannot describe how important the relationships formed at camp are in young Jacob's life.

Behind in school, he might not understand all that he hears being taught, but he absolutely cannot help but miss the living examples before him at camp. This wasn't just from the adult counselors either!!

Jacob participated in a Bible verse memorization contest last year. One of the other young boys from a Christian background was quizzing him and encouraging him to study hard! What a sight to see, and what an impact that had on his young life!

Please help us to be a blessing in Jacob's life at Camp Rocks! again this year as well!

Sweet Rosa ...

Sweet Rosa is one special kid! She is old beyond her years with a brother with special needs that she has to take care of. She is also the oldest of four, so she does more than her share of mothering her family even though she is only in the fourth grade. What a sweet child!!

Rosa is so helpful and kind, always thinking of others. She works hard in school, and faithfully completes her homework.

Camp is such a wonderful time for her to actually be a kid!!

Jason ...

Jason was a first time camper last year at Camp Rocks! He wasn't sure what to think at first. Much like the first day of school, he was very quiet and you could tell he was checking everything out.

Well, by the end of camp he was a different kid! Jason was giving high fives, shouting along with the songs at the campfire, and staring in the camp drama class' production. Camp not only gave him an opportunity to grow spiritually, (our BIGGEST goal), but it also gave Jason a chance to grow in other ways as well.

He was eating up the attention from our staff, and he was able to see a number of adult Christian role models live out their faith for 24-hours a day for a whole week!!

We will never know the impact camp had on Jason, but we would sure like it if you would help us send him to camp again this year so that he can see Jesus lived out for Him once more!!

Fifth-grader Karina has recently moved up from our Elementary school ministry (Kids Club) to our Middle school ministry (Mealtime). She loves to be a part of the "church" as all of our kids call it. She thrived at camp last year, loving every minute. You should have seen her face as she ran around the campsite each day! The sometimes sluggish pre-teen was not sluggish at all that week!

Camp Rocks! was a wonderful environment for Karina. She needs the nurture and support of solid Christian adults in her life that can show her Christ's unconditional love. Karina's little apartment expanded this past year to include a new baby brother who she helps take care of with her grandmother while her parents are at work.

Camp Rocks 2010

On May 30^th approximately 100 campers & staff will arrive at the Woodland Christian Campsite in Temple, GA for Camp Rocks 2010. We would like to take 20 of our Square Peg kids to experience Camp this year. Camp Rocks is one week out of their lives that allows them to just be children – in a fun, safe, exciting environment - exploring God’s Word!

In order to be considered for a Scholarship, the Square Peg Applicant must pay (or raise on their own) at least $50. Square Peg Ministries will then commit to raising the remaining fees.However, we need your help!

We simply cannot bring this week to His Kids without your help. We would be honored if you were to prayerfully consider how you might be able to help us this year.

Friday we learned how David loved God with all his Soul and that "No Matter What" he was going to follow God. We could tell that our kids were really moved in their hearts to want to make right decisions with their souls that honor God. We closed our lesson with a prayer of blessing for each child. Leaders laid hands on each kid as we prayed that these kids would follow God "No Matter What."

God is doing amazing work within the hearts of the kids that He sends to us! Thank you Lord for being so faithful!

Square Peg Back To School Event 2009

Tuesday was our backpack giveaway at our apartment.
Kids were lined up at our door 2 hours early. They were ready to pick out their backpacks!

We received a lot of school supply donations from our ministry partners!
We were able to fill 50 bags full of basic supplies!

We also had some wonderful volunteers/tutors to come and help the kids select the right backpack for them.

Holiday House 2008

Here are some pictures from our Holiday House! This year we had over 90 kids come through our apartment in one afternoon to pick out presents for their families. It was an afternoon full of excitement and craziness!

Kids Club Resurrection Service

On Good Friday we explored the Resurrection Story in Kids Club. We told the story, showed pictures and gave kids hands on objects that they could take home to remind them of the story. Then we moved all the kids outside the apartment to sit on tarps, eat their snack and watch an amazing performance by the M&M puppeteers!

Who turned out the lights?

Yesterday was our regular kids club/mealtime day and while we are standing in the kitchen preparing things for our middle school kids and talking about the weeks ahead the lights go out! We stop and look at each other but don't think that much about it. You know, we thought they would just pop back on in a few minutes or so. Well, it got to be like 10 minutes to 4PM and we started to worry that maybe they weren't going to come back on. It was weird, I felt like we were in the Twilight Zone. We sent one of the middle school girls up to the office to ask about the power. When she came back they had told her that the whole complex had no power and they were "working on it." Well, by this time everyone was outside because it is pretty dark inside the apartment. We were forced to cancel kids club and mealtime this week for safety reasons and the kids were pretty upset about it. We were too. But we told them we would give them a snack and that perked them up quickly. They basically mobbed us for those snacks! I hope the power came back on for them before the sun went down.

One of our faithful volunteers commented that everyone was coming to our apartment because it did seem that a lot of people/kids were hanging out by our breeze way. Then that same volunteer said "it's because we are the light." It's so true isn't it. The power had went out and it was dark inside our apartment but there was still a light shining from our apartment, the light of Jesus! It's the best kind!

Kids Club and Mealtime Jan.2008

In Kids Club this month we learned about Joshua and Achan's hidden sin.

One of our groups met in a real tent every week to play a game and hear a story.

On this particular day we had 18 Pre-K to 1st graders packed inside the tent.

We had a lot of fun!

In Mealtime our middleschoolers acted out the first 7 chapters of Matthew.

This past Friday we had 15 middle school boys and girls! God is doing some BIG things within our little apartment!

Holiday House 2007

Saturday, Dec. 8th was our very first Holiday House. Holiday House was designed to teach our kids who come to Kids Club and Mealtime about the gift of giving during Christmas. For two weeks the kids had been earning "Christmas Bucks" for every time they came to Homework Help and Kids Club/Mealtime. All the kids were so excited about the "Christmas Bucks". We even had kids come to Homework Help who didn't have homework. Instead they brought books to read so that they wouldn't miss out on their "Christmas Bucks". The idea was for the kids to earn these bucks to spend in the holiday house to buy presents for their family.

This was our gift buying room. We had so many wonderful donations of gifts for kids to choose from and buy for their family. A very special thanks to Crabapple First Baptist Weekday Preschool, a small group of North Point Community Church, Cindy Golden and Parkway Property Management for all the donations of gifts!

We had tons of wonderful volunteers for this fun day! A delightful small group from North Point Community Church, a creative group of teenagers, and some old friends came out to make this day a Big success!

Remember the group of creative teenagers? They put together some really cute and creative Christmas cards for the kids to make. Our kids really enjoyed them. Some of them made as many as 5 different cards!

Thank you to everyone who made this day AWESOME for our kids! We really saw the Lord's spirit of giving in our kids that day. One little girl gave up 40 of her "Christmas Bucks" to buy a blanket for another little girl's baby cousin because the little girl did not have enough. This is what we wanted to see in our kids this Christmas season! The joy of giving! Thank you for giving to Square Peg ministries joyfully!!!

Mealtime to Cagle's Dairy Farm

The night started with a good old fashion hayride down to the cookout area.

We cooked our Jumbo hot dogs and marshmallow's together. YUMMY!

After the cookout we traveled through the corn maze. Boy did we get lost.

After the corn we ended the night on this big jumping balloon thing. It was so fun!

The kids had a GREAT time!

The afternoon started off with this little boy bringing his guitar from home because he knew Mr. Jason plays his guitar every week. He came through the door with it on and walked right up to the front to stand by Mr. Jason. Then he pretended to play along. He never said a word, just smiled. This is one of my favorites! I could totally adopt him, but I think his mom would miss him a lot. He was so proud of himself!

Every week we start Kids Club off in the living/dining room area. We have chairs set up and we somehow cram about 45 kids into these 2 little rooms. During this time together we remember our rules, sing some cool songs, pray, go over our memory verse and then dismiss into our learning stations.Watch this video of the kids saying the memory verse.

Our kids are divided into groups by grade level. Then they are put on a rotation for 3 weeks. During this time they will review and experience the bible story in many different ways. In kids club we are walking through the Bible. We started at Genesis 2 school years ago and now we are to Joshua. We just learned the story of Rahab and the Spies. During this unit the kids rotated from a Computer Lab (where they played computer games related to the story), to Red said Fred (a potpourri of games and things related to the color red), Color Fun (color sheets and worksheets from the Bible story), Outdoor games (something with a tennis ball and red numbers?), and Crafts.
